Pioneer Days at the Pioneer Museum of Alabama kicked of yesterday in a big way and expectations are the today will be just as big and enjoyed.

Veterans of the annual Pioneer Days event agreed it was one of the best or perhaps the best ever.

Barbara Tatom, museum director, said Pioneer Days 2024 was, as far as she understands  was one of the largest  and the most attended. She and expressed appreciation to all the vendors, and all those who enjoyed the day leaning  about the pioneers who broke ground and plowed the fields that are now our homes, schools,  businesses , churches, industries, art centers and museums. Troy University is a Division One university. Pike County has an airport, a folklife play and all with  a hometown atmosphere.

“We owe it all those who pioneered the place we call home,” Tatom said.

Those who spent time learning about and experiencing Pioneer Days and ways included students from Troy Elementary School, Goshen Elementary, Christian Academy, and also schools from Argo and Heflin.

“We also had a large number of Florida residents who  were going back home and stopped to enjoy an outdoor learning event,” Tatom said.

Visitors to Pioneer Days 2024 came from throughout the  Wiregrass and from Louisiana, Tennessee, and Georgia.

“We had a large number demonstrators, re-enactors, artists, craftsmen, musicians, a chuck wagon, a school teacher, a circuit riding preacher and kids’ games and activities,” Tatom said.

Pioneer Days will  continue today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Everyone is invited and welcomed.

Admission is charged. Kids under five and under and museum members are free. Now is time for become a member of the Pioneer Museum of Alabama and enjoy the many activities and events for a year.
