Ahead of the Sun Belt Conference’s Basketball Media Days this week, the conference released its Preseason Coaches Poll and Preseason All-Sun Belt Team.

The Trojans – featuring the most returning players in the conference – were picked to finish third in the Sun Belt behind Arkansas State and James Madison. Both Troy and James Madison received one first place vote, while Arkansas State earned the other 12 first place votes.

Troy sophomore Myles Rigsby was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, while senior Tayton Conerway was selected to the All-Sun Belt Second Team. Rigsby is the only underclassmen to be named to the All Sun Belt First and Second Team. Every other player, on both the first and second team, are seniors.

As a freshman, Rigsby won Sun Belt Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Conerway won the SBC Sixth Man of the Year Award last year after averaging 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game. His 63 total steals led the Sun Belt and was 22nd in the entire country.

“Myles and Tayton are two of the best returning players in the Sun Belt Conference and are both extremely deserving of this preseason recognition,” head coach Scott Cross said. “They both will be a huge part of any success that we have this season, and I look forward to watching them do great things as they continue to improve, get better and help us win basketball games this season.”

Troy’s third place preseason finish in the coaches poll was the highest Troy has been placed since the 2017-2018 season. The Trojans are the only team in the conference to win more than 20 total games and 10 conference games in the last three seasons.
