Troy Recycles Day is this Saturday

The City of Troy will be holding its 2024 Troy Recycles Day this Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Lowe’s parking lot from 8 a.m. until noon.

Keep Troy Beautiful, City of Troy, Troy Bank and Trust, ReTech, MAX Credit Union, Lowe’s, KW Plastics and First Cahawba Bank partner to bring Troy Recycles Day to the city annually in conjunction with America Recycles Day, which is a Keep America Beautiful national initiative dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

Troy Recycles Day offers free recycling drop off for anyone in the Troy community for regular recyclables along with electronic recycling. Troy Recycles Day will also have a shred-truck onsite. Shred drop off is strictly limited to 10 regular sized bags or boxes per household or organization with no exceptions. Document shredding onsite is courtesy of First Cahawba Bank, MAX Credit Union and Troy Bank and Trust.

The list of acceptable electronic items for recycling include any and all electronics, small appliances, any type of wiring, florescent light fixtures (no bulbs), office phones, cell phones, copper, aluminum, brass and LCD monitors. Also, lead acid, NiCad, nickel metal and lithium ion batteries can be recycled along with flat screen televisions. No CRT, tube or thick TVs will be accepted.

City of Troy Recycling will be present at the event to take regular recyclables accepted by the City of Troy year-round, including cardboard, paper, plastics (#1, 2, 4, 5 plastics) and clean aluminum cans and steel food containers. AAA-D batteries, CRT or tube televisions or monitors, hazardous waste, tires, fluorescent tube bulbs, trash, garbage, paint or wet/leaking paint cans will not be accepted.

“We are thankful for all of the partners in this year’s Troy Recycles Day, this includes Keep Troy Beautiful, First Cahawba Bank, Interstate Batteries, KW, Lowe’s, MAX Credit Union, ReTech Recycling and Troy Bank and Trust,” read a City of Troy statement. “Be sure to grab all of your unwanted electronics, old documents and regular recycling items and come see us on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Troy Lowe’s parking lot from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m.”
