The Brundidge Historical Society hosted its 32st Annual Peanut Butter Festival on Saturday, October 26, 2023, on the grounds of the Historic Bass House.
And, it was one for the books, said BHS President Johnny Garrett.
“The 2024 Peanut Butter Festival was one of the most successful Peanut Butter Festivals that I remember,” Garrett said. “We had a really big crowd, great entertainment, outstanding vendors, a variety of popular festival foods and the best weather we could have hope for. It was just a great day all around.”
And, as good as the other 31 Peanut Butter Festival have been, this year’s festival was uniquely special,” Garrett said.
“The 2024 Peanut Butter Festival was, as always, a harvest and heritage celebration. But for whatever reason, this year, the Peanut Butter Festival was more like a homecoming celebration…a community homecoming celebration.”
The annual Peanut Festival has a tradition of being an extended community event and everyone is welcome to come and celebrate the harvest season and thank those who feed and clothe us all.
But the year 2024 was different in a special way. And, not just in a small town kind of way.
“Everybody was having a good time; everybody was proud to see everybody even if they didn’t know who they were.
The 2024 Peanut Butter Festival was a time for coming together as a community and in the spirit of a homecoming.
I just wish we all could experience a time like that…all the time,” Garrett said.
