If the students at Pike County Elementary School are as excited about “school” as their principal, Rodney Drish, then expect great things from them throughout the year.
The Brundidge Rotary Club hosted Rodney Drish, principal of Pike County Elementary School, at its regular weekly meeting. The Rotarians enjoyed learning more about the elementary that is located in Brundidge and is making waves with innovative ways to motivate its students to be better academically, better individuals and better community members.
Drish said his goal, and also that of his facility members and staff, is to encourage their students to, individually, be better and do better, to set goals and take pride in their accomplishments.
“At Pike County Elementary School, we are always looking for different ways to motivate and encourage our students academically and socially,” Drish said. “Setting a goal or goals for students for strive for and accomplish has been a motivating factor.”
Not all students are the same so different motivational ways are important for reaching goals that will be beneficial to each student.
Recently, grade-level students were challenged to set and reach a goal. Those who reached the goal would be rewarded with a trip to the Atlanta Aquarium. Not only did the students reach their goals, they exceeded them.
Drish said, academics are import but so is knowing how to dress and to conduct themselves.
Now, they know and understand what it means to be dressed appropriately in all situations.
At Pike County Elementary School there are many different opportunities for learning. Don’t be surprised to visit the campus and find a watermelon patch, raised vegetable beds or a chicken coop – each a learning opportunity. And expect to find students who are well-dressed and well-behaved and striving to be the best they can be.
