Word quickly spread.

“What’s going on at the Nonnenmann house?!”

It was Halloween night and lots of things were “going on” around Troy. But, nothing quite like the “goings on” at the historic  house on the corner of South Three Notch and Church streets.

The front lawn of the Nonnenmann house was, seemingly, alive with the spooky characters of Halloween and they appeared to be “out to get cha’!” but  all in fun.

The Nonnenmanns, Chris and Lisa, were up early on Halloween morning with the purpose of, and desire to, make Halloween 2024  a special time around town for kids of all ages. So, they went about the business of “getting up” the characters of Halloween that had been waiting in boxes and bags until it was, once again,  show-time!

The Nonnenmanns said they look forward to Halloween each year and  the fun and fellowship of the season. Although Halloween is not a holiday, it is a day for all ages to dress up, eat up and have fun with neighbors and friends.

Lisa traces her interest in and ties to Halloween back 50 years to her dad, who enjoyed Halloween as much as the little ones. He liked to treat kids with candy and also with Halloween “boos” all in fun and no one ever tricked  her dad, such a good fellow.

“My dad just enjoyed everything about Halloween and, because he did, I enjoyed it that much, too,” Lisa said. “When something has been a part of  your life for that long, it becomes a part of who you are.”

Lisa and Chris  shared her dad’s joy in Halloween so after his death, they have continued to celebrate Halloween in memory of and love from him.

“And, too, it’s a wonderful and fun time of year.”

So, that’s the reason Halloween is uniquely special at the Nonnenmann’s house. It’s also the reason Lisa and Chris were up before the crack of dawn Thursday preparing  for Halloween at their home on South Brundidge and Church Streets.

There was no announcement that the couple was expecting guests of the “odd’ kind. But, when the Grim Reaper showed up at dusk on Halloween, the news spread quickly. “Come see what’s at the Nonnenmann’s house!  And, come they did; from up and down the street, across the street and far beyond. On October 31, 2024, several hundred people shared a Halloween experience that will be long remembered and appreciated, thanks to Chris and Lisa Nonnenmann and her dad.
