On Nov. 1, the Troy Trojans (10-12, 5-7) swept the ULM Warhawks (4-20, 0-12) by a score of 3-0 for the second consecutive match, taking the Sun Belt Conference series.
Troy won all three sets in convincing fashion, taking the first set 25-14 and then winning 25-18 in the second and completing the sweep with a 25-16 win the third set.
“We played better tonight than we did yesterday,” Troy Coach Josh Lauer said. “That’s really good momentum, and it showed the resilience of our team. Let’s not pull any punches: we are really beat up. We’ve got a lot of injuries we are working through right now, so I am super proud of the way we came out.”
Amiah Butler slammed her way into the Troy record books in the win with nine kills and two blocks, as she surpassed 1,000 career kills. Butler is just the 11th player in program history to surpass 1,000 kills.
Tori Hester also inches closer to setting a school record each week. Against ULM, Hester earned 11 kills, two aces, nine digs and three blocks. Her 11 kills marked her 44th straight match with double-digit kills, which is the longest active streak in the NCAA. It also brings her just 53 kills shy of the Troy career record, which is held by Cheyenne Hayes’ 1,671 career kills.
Kalina Calvillo also had a big night with a team-high 12 kills along with three blocks, while Janelle Stuempfig earned 27 assists and both Ella Broadhead and Sydney Austin had four blocks each.
With just two conference series left on the schedule, Troy moves into fourth place of the Sun Belt West behind South Alabama, Arkansas State and Texas State. Troy is on the road on Nov. 7-8 for a conference series against Southern Miss.
