The Troy Trojans (0-3) were on the road again Nov. 10 and lost a tough matchup with the No. 24-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0) by a score of 94-71.
Troy shot just 33.3 percent from the field against the Tide, while Alabama shot 43.7 percent. Troy also shot 29.6 percent from three-point land, while Alabama shot 31.3 percent. Troy did manage to win the rebound battle 51-48 but turned the ball over 19 times and Alabama scored 29 points off those turnovers. Alabama also outscored Troy 40-30 in the paint.
Alabama took a 25-17 lead into the second quarter and led 50-33 at halftime. The Crimson Tide’s lead ballooned to 68-52 in the third quarter and Alabama outscored the Trojans 26-19 in the final period to earn the 94-71 win. For the second consecutive season, Troy has started out 0-3.
“We’re at the end of a very long road trip. We’ve been together for over a week and have faced a lot of adversity to start the season regarding the teams we’ve played and the weather,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “Overall, I’m proud of the lessons we’ve learned. I’m not proud that we couldn’t come away with a victory, especially today. But we’ve learned a lot about who we are. We can come out and compete with anyone.
“This is the 24th-ranked team in the nation, and at times, we had them on the ropes. Unfortunately, we couldn’t sustain it. We would’ve been in a much better place if we could’ve shut down their dribble-drive game. We can’t go back. Instead, we need to go home, rest, and come back for Chattanooga, looking to get our first win.”
Ashley Baez led Troy with 14 points and five rebounds, while Emani Jenkins added 11 points and two rebounds. Fortuna Ngnawo and Leilani Guion scored nine points each and Fortuna also grabbed seven rebounds. Shaulana Wagner scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and dished five assists.
Alabama was led by Zaay Green with 24 points, while Aaliyah Nye added 18 points and five rebounds. Karly Weathers scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Troy remains on the road this week against UT-Chattanooga on Nov. 14 in the fourth of eight straight road games to open the season.
