According to a release from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), troopers made an arrest in Pike County after a pursuit and standoff on Nov. 11.
At approximately 4 p.m., an ALEA Trooper attempted to stop a 2020 Dodge Ram truck on U.S. Highway 231 near County Road 7707 in Pike County, but the driver failed top and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit ended when the driver crashed on Alabama Highway 94 near the 17-mile marker in Montgomery County.
Following the crash, a standoff took place between the driver – Maxi D. Evans – and law enforcement officers. Evans, a 47-year-old Ramer resident, was armed with a handgun, proceeded to fire at law enforcement. Montgomery County Sheriff’s, along with Special Agents with ALEA State Bureau of Investigation’s (SBI), SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Unit, were all on scene.
No officers were struck or injured during the shooting and ALEA was able to resolve the standoff and apprehend Evans without further incident through “intentional and deliberate negotiations.”
Evans was transported to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment. Evans is facing a charge of Attempting to Elude along with additional pending firearm charges. He will be booked into Pike County Jail.
