The Troy Trojans (1-3) picked up their first win in the 2024-2025 women’s basketball season with a 76-66 victory over the UT-Chattanooga Mocs (2-2) on Thursday.

Troy led for the entirety of the game, never trailing even once. The Trojans jumped out to a 24-10 lead in the first quarter and led 44-33 at halftime. UT-Chattanooga cut the lead to 56-49 going into the fourth but the Trojans outscored the Mocs 20-17 in the final period to secure the win.

Troy shot 41.7 percent from the field and held UT-Chattanooga to 33.3 percent shooting. Troy also knocked down 18-of-20 free throw attempts but shot just 10 percent from the three-point line. Troy won the rebound battle 44-38 and outscored Chattanooga 44-20 in the paint. The Trojans also forced 17 turnovers and scored 17 points off those turnovers.

“We’re thrilled to get our first win of the season tonight in Tennessee,” Troy Coach Chanda Rigby said. “Chattanooga was a good team, but I think our team was hungrier for this win. Zay had a monster game with over 20 points. She’s not like everybody else. She can do things that most people can’t, so we need her to recognize that and have these nights consistently.

“To see that 17-0 run in the first, it was exciting to see it all come together. Any question about whether we had full buy-in was answered there in the beginning. Now, we just need to extend those stretches. I think foul trouble allowed the Mocs to sneak their way back in. We need to stay focused because we have No. 7 LSU next. Let’s take the traction from this came and carry it over.”

Zay Dyer led Troy with 24 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks, while Ashley Baez added 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Shaulana Wagner chipped in with 11 points and five assists. Fortuna Ngnawo also added six points and 12 rebounds.

Chattanooga was led by Caia Elisaldez with 15 points, while Sigrun Olafsdottir scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

The Trojans will attempt to keep the momentum going next week with a road matchup against the No. 7-ranked LSU Tigers on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
