On Monday, the Sun Belt Conference announced that Troy junior quarterback was selected as the SBC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Mathew Caldwell.
Caldwell completed 26-of-32 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, along with two rushing touchdowns in Troy’s win over Georgia Southern, which was the first road win of the season for the Trojans.
“The tough part of growth is that there’s only one way to grow, and that’s by doing things and learning in the fire,” Troy Coach Gerad Parker said of Caldwell on Monday. “We’ve been in it together as a team, and he’s been in a position where he gets the most out of it.”
In four starts this season, Caldwell has completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 1,191 yards and eight touchdowns with six interceptions.
Caldwell and the Trojans travel to face off against Louisiana this Saturday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m.
