Area Teams compete in tournament action

The Pike County Lady Bulldogs, Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots and Goshen Lady Eagles all traveled to Luverne this weekend to compete in the Lady Tigers Pre-Thanksgiving Shootout.
Pike County went 2-1 in the tournament with a one-point loss to Calhoun and wins over both Pike Lib and Goshen. After losing 30-29 to Calhoun on the first day of the tournament, Pike County responded by opening day two with a 54-30 win over Pike Lib.
Paityn Flowers and Kynthis Jackson led PCHS with 10 points each, while Tamja Taylor scored nine points and Zohee Lucy added seven. For Pike Lib, Shelly Stephens scored 11 points and Mary Holland Stephens scored 10 points.
Pike County wrapped up the tournament with a thrilling 36-34 win over Goshen. In the final seconds, Pike County’s Lucy scored a layup on a fast break to secure the win for the Lady Dawgs.
Lucy tallied 14 points for Pike County, while Taylor added 10 points. For Goshen, Alyssa Sparks scored 16 points, while both Ja’Nia Martin and Tarodji Taylor scored eight points each.
In other tournament action, Goshen lost 49-34 to Georgiana and Pike Lib lost 61-18 to Carroll-Ozark.
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans also traveled to Pelham to compete in the Turkey Tip-Off Classic. In the first round, Charles Henderson lost 62-41 to Cullman. Reaghan Worley led CHHS with 18 points in the loss.
