Area teams compete in Tuesday hoops contests

A number of high school basketball teams were in action on Tuesday, Nov. 26, including the Charles Henderson Trojans, Ariton Purple Cats and Pike Liberal Arts Patriots.

Charles Henderson lost 50-35 to Clay-Chalkville in the consolation bracket of the Sneaky Pete’s Rebel Classic in Vestavia Hills. Jyderian Burney led CHHS with 14 points in the loss.

Ariton, Pike Lib and Zion Chapel all competed in the Ariton Hoopsgiving Classic this week, as well.

Ariton started off the tournament with a 49-30 win over Pike Lib on Nov. 25. Easton Kilpatrick led Ariton with 13 points, while Addison Senn added 12 points and seven rebounds. Aven Cook also totaled seven points and six rebounds. For Pike, Chase DeBoer scored nine points, while Jackson Baggett scored eight points.

The Patriots dropped a matchup with the Dale County Warriors by a score of 66-39 on Tuesday. Sawyer Keck led PLAS with 14 points, while Junior Smith led Dale County with 21 points.

On Tuesday, Ariton bested Zion Chapel 56-32. Pierce Gill led Ariton with 10 points and six rebounds, while Cook scored nine points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Addison Senn tallied seven points and five assists. For Zion Chapel, Brodie Stinson scored 10 points, while John Foster Hamm scored eight.
