According to a release from Troy University, the school will begin construction on the proposed indoor practice facility for Troy Football beginning in January.
The $11.6 million facility is scheduled to officially open in August, 2025, just in time for football season.
“The indoor facility is an incredibly important addition to our football program— which is built upon a tradition of success,” Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said. “We are very proud of our Trojans and appreciate the support of our Trustees and the TROY family in making this facility a reality.”
The new indoor facility will be built behind Trojan Arena on one of the existing outdoor grass practice fields. The 88,000-square facility will feature a fully covered 120-yard field with turf to replicate the playing surface at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
“On behalf of our Board of Trustees, it is my pleasure to express our collective support for this state-of-the-art facility,” said Gibson Vance, President Pro-Tempore of Troy University’s Board of Trustees. “As trustees, we are committed to ensuring the success our student-athletes, both in the classroom and on the field.”
While the Troy football team will be the primary user of the indoor facility, it will also serve as a practice option for other athletic programs when inclement weather doesn’t allow for outdoor practices.
Earlier this fall Troy University received an anonymous $1 million philanthropic commitment in support of the construction of the practice facility. The indoor facility is the next in line of the improvements that Troy Football has seen over the past several years, including the North End Zone Facility, which was completed in 2018.
“This is a game changer for our program and for our student-athletes,” football head coach Gerad Parker said. “I am so thankful for Chancellor Hawkins and the Board of Trustees for their support of this facility that will continue to elevate our program in the Sun Belt and nationally.”
