Trojan Arena was rocking on Saturday as the Troy Trojans women’s and men’s’ basketball teams earned home wins.

The Troy men (6-4) throttled the Middle Georgia State Knights (7-5) by a score of 87-53. Troy shot 49.2 percent from the field, while holding Middle Georgia State to 31.3 percent shooting. The Trojans outrebounded the Knights by an eye-popping 54-37 and outscored them 50-32 in the paint. Troy also scored 29 points off 21 forced turnovers, while blocking seven shots as a team.

“I thought we started off great. Defensively, our guys were really locked in and we got off to a great start,” Troy Coach Scott Cross said. “I think we started out 27-4. It’s what you want to see. They’re a good basketball team; they have seven wins. For us to have that type of lead in the beginning of the game really showed that our guys were in-tune and on the same page. I thought we executed offensively, for the most part, throughout the game.”

The Trojan women (5-5) also earned a resounding 85-67 win over the Memphis Tigers (2-7) with Shaulana Wagner becoming the first Troy player in Division I history to earn a triple-double. Wagner tallied 12 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the win.

“I don’t even know what to say. I’m just speechless,” Wagner said of her performance. “I’m beyond excited, and so many emotions are going on inside right now. It’s just amazing, and I couldn’t have done it without my teammates. They kept telling me to keep going, so I locked in. From there, I just went in and rebounded like I do.”

As a team, Troy shot 49.3 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three-point land. The Trojans outrebounded Memphis 43-28 and outscored the Tigers 54-26 in the paint. Troy also forced 18 turnovers.
