Over the weekend, the Troy Trojans football team earned a trio of commitments from the transfer portal, including from a Wiregrass native.

Former Georgia Tech offensive tackle Patrick Screws Jr. committed to Troy on Sunday. The 6-foot-5-inch, 310-pound tackle is a Eufaula native who earned All-State honors in 2021 and 2022 at Eufaula High School, playing for former Troy star Jerrel Jernigan. He was rated as a three-star high school prospect.

Jaquez White is transferring from Washburn to Troy.

Screws holds the Eufaula record for knockdowns in a game and earned Dothan Eagle Super 12 honors in 2022. He was graded at 97 percent with 100 pancake blocks in just 10 games as as senior. Screws will come to Troy with three years of eligibility left.

On Saturday, Troy landed a commitment Washburn University cornerback Jaquez White. The 6-foot-1-inch, 185-pound defensive back is a Blackshear, Ga., native. At Pierce County High School, White earned All-Region and All-State honors as a senior and also earned All-Region honors as a junior. He was state runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles as a senior and also earned All-Region in basketball.

White recorded 74 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, one interception, 11 pass breakups and two blocked kicks in 21 games for Washburn. As a sophomore this past season he racked up 37 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, an interception, seven pass breakups and two blocked kicks. He’s also successful in the classroom, earning MIAA Academic Honor Roll honors. He’ll come to Troy with two years of eligibility.

Troy also landed a commitment from former Vanderbilt safety Steven Sannieniola.

Also on Saturday, former Vanderbilt safety Steven Sannieniola committed to Troy. Sannieniola is a Bowie, Md., native that was a three-star prospect coming out of Quince Orchard High School. He played both safety and running back in high school, totaling 320 yards and seven touchdowns with four receiving touchdowns on offense as a senior to go along with 41 tackles, three interceptions, one touchdown, six pass breakups, a forced fumble and three blocked punts on defense.

Sannieniola signed with Vanderbilt out of high school and tallied 10 tackles and one tackle-for-loss in two seasons with the Commodores. He will come to Troy with two years of eligibility left.

Troy lost three safeties – including two with starting experience – to the transfer portal this offseason, so the addition of Sannieniola will be big for that position group. Troy has also lost depth players at cornerback and on the offensive line to graduation and the transfer portal.

Earlier this offseason, Troy also added commitments from running back Jamontez Woods and defensive end Deairich Jackson Jr. from the transfer portal bringing the total to five thus far.
