Area Hoops: CHHS, Ariton, PLAS earn Tuesday wins

A number of local teams were in hoops action on Tuesday as area play has begun with Charles Henderson, Pike Liberal Arts and Ariton all picking up wins.

The Charles Henderson Trojans bested Greenville in Class 5A, Area 3 by a score of 63-54 as Tyler Cross scored 18 points in the win. Kameron Christian added 11 points and Larry Triggs scored nine. 

The Pike County Bulldogs lost in a Class 4A, Area 4 game to New Brockton by a score of 50-47 after the Dawgs missed a potential tying three-pointer at the buzzer. Khalil Foster led PCHS with 14 points, while A’zohre Eutsey added 10 points.

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots defeated Zion Chapel 50-48 in Class 2A, Area 3. PLAS jumped out to a 12-9 lead in the first quarter and held a 23-17 lead at halftime. Zion Chapel cut the Patriot lead to 39-38 going into the final period. In the fourth, PLAS managed to outscore Zion Chapel 11-10 to secure the win. 

Brodie Stinson led ZCHS with 22 points and four rebounds, while Joseph LeGear tallied 12 points and four rebounds. For Pike, Chase DeBoer scored 13 points and Jackson Mitchell scored 11. Sawyer Keck also tallied 11 points. 

The Ariton Purple Cats notched a Class 2A, Area 4 win over Barbour County by a score of 37-31. Za’veon Scott scored 12 points for the Cats and Rashaud Rogers scored 14 for the Jaguars.
