Andrea Pack, the director for the Johnson Center for the Arts, said there was a lot going on in the New Year.
Pack spoke to Troy Rotarians on Tuesday and said there was a lot more to the JCA than just an art museum. Pack talked to Rotarians about how the JCA fostered arts in the community.
One of the newest JCA initiatives includes AMP up Art, which is a program to bring the arts to underserved areas. She said the JCA currently provided instructional support in the arts at Banks School and for Crenshaw County Schools.
She said the JCA offered a variety of programs to get children exposed to the arts. Some of the programs include ArtPlay, Expression Sessions at Charles Henderson Child Health Center, art classes at Art by the Tracks, as well as a Kids Book Club. She said seasonal programs are also offered through CenterStagers in the spring and Fall, Summer Art Explosion as well as a Second Saturday Studio art class for ages 12 and up.
The JCA also offers space for private parties as well as exhibitions and field trips.
Pack said the JCA will also host its Disco Dinner fundraiser on Feb. 6. Tickets are $75 and table sponsorships are available. The Disco Dinner will be held Feb. 6 with a silent auction from 6-7 p.m. Dinner will be by KC Creative and the evening’s entertainment will be by La’Roy Bodiford and Friends.
The JCA’s current exhibit is Currents, a quilting display by Gee’s Bend quilter Marlene Bennett Jones. The exhibit runs through March 14.
