High School Hoops: Goshen, Charles Henderson earn area wins

On Monday, both the Goshen Eagles and Charles Henderson Trojans earned big area wins. 

Goshen knocked off the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots in a Class 2A, Area 3 matchup. Jayden McNabb led the way for Goshen with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Ahmad Rogers scored 12 points and JD Burney added seven points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Jackson Mitchell scored 11 points to lead Pike Lib. 

On the girls side, Pike Lib picked up an area win over Goshen by a score of 39-30. Shelley Stephens and Riley Burkett both scored 10 points for the Lady Patriots, while Ja’Nai Martin scored 10 points for the Lady Eagles.

The Charles Henderson Trojans moved to 5-0 in Class 5A, Area 3 with a 66-45 win over Andalusia. Jydarien Burney scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Trojans, while Kameron Christian scored 12 points, Tyler Cross scored 11 and Damein Williams added 10 points. The Lady Trojans fell 26-23 in overtime to Andalusia, however. Kamari Stroizer led CHHS with eight points in the loss. 

The Pike County Bulldogs fell 56-53 to Straughn in a Class 4A, Area 4 defeat on Monday. Tra Davenport led PCHS with 18 points, while A’zhoree Eutsey scored 10 points and CJ Griffin scored nine. The Pike County Lady Bulldogs also lost 56-30 to Straughn. Tamieja Taylor led PCHS with seven points. 

The Ariton Purple Cats lost 73-55 to Abbeville. Addison Senn led Ariton with 14 points, while Tristan McGuire scored 12. The Lady Cats also lost 35-32 to Abbeville. Nya Allen led Ariton with 11 points as she surpassed 1,000 career points. The senior will play both basketball and volleyball at Enterprise State Community College next season. Macileigh Bragg added eight points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Cats.
