PLAS ranked second

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriot were the only are team ranked in the 2011 Alabama Sports Writers Association Preseason Poll release Wednesday.
The Patriots received 276 votes to begin the season ranked second behind Monroe Academy, who received 381 votes.
Pike head coach Steven Kilcrease says that while and honor he doesn’t want his team to overlook anyone.
“You’ve still got to play th games on the field,” Kilcrease said. “It’s a good thing for the parents and kids but as a team we have to concentrate on playing the season.”
Sandwiching the Patriots, who finished 9-3 last season, in the initial poll are the only two teams to defeat Pike in 2010, Monroe and Fort Dale Academy.
“I think our kids are excited to wipe the slate clean and play all these teams (on Pike’s schedule) again,” said Kilcrease.
No other area team received any votes. AHSAA games are scheduled to begin Aug. 25-27 and most all AISA start the same week. The complete ASWA pool in listed below along including all schools receiveing votes along with number of first-place votes and 2010 record in parenthesis.
