Christmas was in the air last night at Clay Hill Church.

Yes, Christmas in January as Pike County residents celebrated Old Christmas.

Old Christmas is sponsored each year by Brundidge United Methodist Church on Jan. 6, which is Old Christmas Day.

The service was a lantern-light service and featured special music played on acoustical instruments, featuring Dan Fraley and Lenny Trawick.

A trio including Brundidge’s Pastor Michael Lawler, Rev. Bobby Hood and Kevin Davis led the congregation in Christmas songs.

Songs for the night included, “Silent Night,” “Oh, Come All Ye Faithful,” “Away in the Manger,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and many more.

Throughout the service, Lawler read the Christmas story from the books of “Luke” and “Matthew.”

The service included live nativity scene.

The nativity scene included Max Bundy, as Joseph, Lynn Bundy, as Mary, 10-month-old Wes Bundy, as Baby Jesus.

Wisemen were Bob Aronson, Eddie Powell and Lawrence Bowden

Lawler said it was important for the church to thank Jaine Treadwell and the others who worked so hard to put the program together. At the end of the service, the congregation was encouraged to spread the light as Jesus had and participated in a candle lighting service.
