Tevin Andrews recorded his second double-double of the season and three Bulldogs had double-digit point totals as Pike County blew the Elba Tigers out of the gym Tuesday 56-32 in Brundidge.
“That is what we have been preaching this whole time because with the offensive power we have on this team, any of those guys can score on any given night,” PCHS head coach Doug Holland said. “The main thing is to spread the ball around and you will see numbers like that all year because these guys work hard.”
The Bulldogs (3-0) never trailed in the game and dominated Elba inside and out all game.
Andrews poured in a team-high 16 points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. Holland said it is always nice to have a senior leader like Andrews leading that team.
“Just watching him play, he is one of those players you like watching play because he will play hard on offense and defense,” Holland said. “We will count on him to keep the other guys going and every night he comes out ready to play. The other guys feed on him.”
Quay Bailey was two assists and three rebounds from a triple-double with 10 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Martellis Foster added 14 points and eight rebounds.
Holland said the game was a little sloppy at first, but his team picked it up as they went along.
“I feel like after the first half we ran the offense like we should have,” he said. “I thought we controlled the boards most of the night.”
Deandre Mathis had six points and two blocks and Jarrod Wilson had three points. Kendrick Jackson scored six points and snagged five rebounds on the night.
The B team boys took down Elba 34-26.
“It was a good win for us,” PCHS head coach Roddrice Griffin said. “For the first game I was pleased. Matthew Lucas, Darius Gill and Marlon Meadows looked good out there for us.”
Corey Carlton led the scoring with nine points. Gill chipped in seven points. Quasun Lampley had six points. Meadows added four points. Dontrel Reynolds, Quadry Greasham and Chris Rodgers each had two points and Lucas and Azriel Larken had one point.
Up next for the Bulldogs is a game against Carroll. Tip for the B team game is set for 4:30 p.m.
