A Troy man pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in Montgomery court this week for incidents related to local burglaries.

Nicholas Shane Manning, 23, of Troy, awaits sentencing after he pleaded guilty to these Pike County related charges, said Pike County Sheriff’s Department deputy Lt. Frank Wheeler.

Wheeler said it was reported on July 30, 2009, that three high-tech hunting bows were taken in a burglary on County Road 7760.

A few weeks later, a similar incident took place on Aug. 13, where a Benneli shotgun valued at $1,800, a .22 caliber rifle, a welding machine and a diamond ring were taken from a home on County Road 7759.

“Through the course of the investigation, information was developed by the Pike County Sheriff’s Department that an individual had stolen these items and had been selling them in Montgomery,” Wheeler said.

The department was unable to obtain confirmation enough to charge Manning with burglary in Pike County, so Wheeler said they developed enough information to charge him with receiving stolen property in Montgomery County.

“Both are Class C felonies with up to two to 10 years in jail,” he said.

“I appreciate the work of Lt. Wheeler and the entire sheriff’s department and appreciate the hard work on surveillance and traveling to Montgomery,” said Sheriff Russell Thomas. “During the course of the investigation, one of the deputies even discovered a gun was taken in a burglary the property owner didn’t know was missing. That was good work on his part.”
