Ever wonder if all this fuss about possible voter registration fraud is simply that – a fuss?

Well, considering a dog here in Pike County received a personally addressed voter registration form this month from the Alabama Democratic Party, we’d have to say there’s legitimate cause for concern.

On Friday, The New York Times published reports saying that ACORN – the community organization group at the heart of much of this year’s voter registration fraud issue – registered far fewer voters than previously claimed.

Early this month, ACORN and its affiliated “Project Vote” charity reported that they had registered 1.3 million new voters this year.

However, a Project Vote leader this week adjusted that figure to 450,000 new voters, a far cry from the original figures.

That’s because at least 400,000 – according to ACORN’s own estimates – of the newly registered voters were ineligible. No surprise there … what with folks like Mickey Mouse and Captain Chito, the Hamilton Crossroads Bison Frise being asked to register this year.

The right to vote is one of the most precious freedoms we have here in America. Sadly, the process of democracy is being violated by special interests and politically based efforts to register voters, with the hopes of rallying support for a particular candidate.

It’s a shame and an embarrassment to our country.
