Charles Henderson High School will celebrate Homecoming 2008 on Friday, Oct. 3, and all alumni and friends of the Trojans are invited to participate in the planned events.
The Homecoming program will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the CHHS gymnasium and will honor the classes of the “9s,” the senior football players, cheerleaders, band members and the 2008-09 Homecoming Queen and her Court.
“The guest speaker for our Homecoming 2008 program will be Donta Frazier,” said Betty Wagoner, CHHS activities coordinator and senior sponsor. “Donta graduated from Charles Henderson in 1999 and received his bachelor of science and master’s degrees from Faulkner University in Montgomery.
“While a student at Charles Henderson, Donta played basketball for Coach Carl Hollis. He played in many area and regional games and made one Final 4 appearance. After graduating from CHHS, Donta played basketball for Faulkner University and was a member of the 2001 NAIA National Championship team.”
Wagoner said Frazier is a proud alumnus of CHHS and will be an entertaining and inspiring speaker.
Immediately following the Homecoming program, there will be a reception in the JROTC building honoring all alumni.
“The Class of 2009 invites all alumni and friends to join them in getting Homecoming 2008 off to a blazing start with the bonfire on Thursday night,” Wagoner said. “This year, we are trying something new – tailgating before the bonfire. Everyone is encouraged to come early and tailgate with the Trojans. The JROTC will be selling hotdogs and snacks or you can bring your own favorite tailgate food.”
The tailgate area and bonfire site will be next to the CHHS baseball field. The bonfire celebration will begin at 7 p.m.
“We invite everybody to continue the Homecoming celebration by lining the streets of downtown Troy at 3 p.m. Friday for the Homecoming Parade,” Wagoner said.
The Homecoming gridiron clash between the CHHS Trojans and the Beauregard Hornets will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium. The halftime show will feature the CHHS Blue Machine Marching Band, the JROTC and the 2008-09 Homecoming Queen and her Court.
