Frances Claire Carter Anthony

Frances Claire Carter Anthony, 88, a former resident of Greenville, passed away on June 25, 2007, in Luverne.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Lisenby officiating.

Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Children's Department at the First United Methodist Church of Greenville; the Children's Department of Trinity United Methodist Church in Birmingham; or one's favorite charity.

Mrs. Anthony is survived by her son Carter Anthony ( Janice) of Birmingham;

three granddaughters, Rebecca Goodson (Davis) of Birmingham, Laura Brown (Allan) of Fairhope and Mary Catherine Anthony of Birmingham; five great-grandchildren, Laura Catherine Goodson, Carter Edward Goodson, Mathews Davis (Hews) Goodson, Laura Elizabeth (Elle) Brown and Joseph Burdick (Burk) Brown. She also leaves behind a multitude of friends and family in South and Central Alabama.

Mrs. Anthony was born June 9, 1919, as the only child of Valetta Rutland and Arthur Preston Carter. She grew up in Glenwood and Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School and Troy State Teachers College. She then taught third and fourth grades and music in Brantley.

In 1941, she married Clanton Eugene Anthony, a lifetime insurance agent with Liberty National Life Insurance Company.

She and Gene were instrumental in building the Brantley Methodist Church. In 1957, his job moved them to Greenville.

Claire was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she played the piano for the men's Sunday school class and she was a member of the Pride of Greenville Garden Club. She loved flowers, especially camellias. Her husband died in November 1982.

In 1987, Claire moved to Birmingham to be closer to her three granddaughters. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a volunteer worker at the Homewood Public Library. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, Colonial Dames, Magna Carta and Daughters of the Founders and Patriots. She did extensive research into her family's genealogy and she loved playing bridge and fishing.

During the past two years she has been cared for wonderfully by the care-giving staffs at Lakehaven and Crenshaw County Hospital then the Luverne Health and Rehab the past few weeks.

The family wishes to thank those wonderful care-givers who have made the past years years such a great experience for Mama Claire.

Carol C. Nunnelee

Carol C. Nunnelee, a resident of Troy, died Wednesday morning, June 20, 2007, while vacationing in the Bahamas.

Visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Collegedale Church of Christ, 701 Collegedale, Troy, with Minister Robert Templin officiating.

A private family graveside service will be held later.

Pallbearers will be Ross Paul, Don Paul, Michael Barnett, Timothy Gouker and Jonathon Scott.

Mrs. Nunnelee was born in Montgomery on August 5, 1951 and lived in Troy all of her adult life. She was a longtime employee of the Revenue Commissioners office at the court house in Troy. She attended and was an active member at Collegedale Church of Christ. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and with her many friends in Troy.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Amanda N. Paul and husband, Jeff Paul, Henderson; a sister, Fan Morrison, Cusseta; a sister, Claire Sawyer and husband, Don Sawyer, Destin, Fla.; a sister, Kay Cato, Montgomery; a brother, Dewitt Cowles, Lakeland, Fla. ; a brother, William Cowles and wife, Becky Cowles, Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Russell Cowles and wife, Sheryl Cowles, Lakeland, Fla.; two grandchildren, Gavin Paul and Britton Paul, Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was one of the most giving and loving people you could ever hope to meet. She will be missed by family, friends and neighbors. She will be remembered for her friendliness and how she never met a stranger, just people who weren't her friends yet. She loved her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren more than words could ever express. They will always treasure the time the Lord gave them with her.

Micheal Wade Griffin

Micheal Wade Griffin, 20, of Troy, died Saturday, June 23, 2007.

Visitation will be held at Oak Bowery Church of Christ from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at Oak Bowery Church of Christ on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow at Belser Cemetery in Goshen.

He is survived by his siblings, Annie Mae Senn (Mike Paxton) of Troy, Angel (Tony) Smith of Elba, Christopher James (Carmen) Messick of Saralan and Melissa Kay Black (Phillip Faulkner); nieces, Diana (Frank) Senn, Kimberly Smith, Brittany Black, Sasha Black, Diana (Kevin) Key and Janie (William) Fowler; nephews, Cory Senn, Tony Smith, Ty Smith and Miles Messick; aunt, Christine Griffin; uncles, Joe Griffin and Ben Griffin; and a host of other relatives.
