Officer breaks leg in arrest

A Troy Police Officer will undergo surgery, after injuries received while making an arrest Saturday.
TPD’s Corporal John Jerkins arrested Adrian Demon Gillis on North Three Notch Street Saturday afternoon. He was charged with criminal trespass third degree.
Gillis resisted arrest and escaped from custody. During the struggle to regain custody of Gillis, Jerkins sustained a broken leg and a wound in his elbow, said Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.
Jerkins was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room, where he received stitches in his elbow. He will undergo surgery on his leg later this week.
Gillis, 21, of Troy, was later arrested by other officers. He is charged with criminal trespass third degree, in addition to possession of marijuana second degree, assault second degree, escape third degree and resisting arrest.
He was taken to the Troy Police Department and later transported to the Pike County Jail, where his bond amount exceeds $30,000.
