Harry F. Baker

Harry F. Baker, 81 of Troy died Monday, May 10, 2004 at Troy Regional Medical Center in Troy. Funeral services for Mr. Baker were held at First Baptist Church in Troy, Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at 4 p.m. with Dr. Ed Walter officiating. Burial was at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy with Dillard Funeral Home in Troy directing. Visitation was held at First Baptist Church in Troy, Wednesday, May 12, 2004 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Gilchrist Baker, Troy; sons, Ronnie (Carolyn) Baker, Troy; Joe (Hope) Baker, Prattville; Jerry (Libby) Baker, Fayettville, Georgia; Grandchildren, Britt (Amy), Brandi, Johanna, Alison, Adam, Mandy, Rebecca; sister, Betty Hetrick, Dothan; brothers, William Baker, Enterprise; Cortez Baker, Dothan; sister-in-law, Koma Joe Baker, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Baker and his parents Gus and Lola Baker.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Troy or your favorite charity.

Mr. Baker served in the US Army Air Corps 92nd Heavy Bomber Group in World War II. He married his wife Elizabeth on March 8, 1947. He graduated from the Southern Watchmaking School in Birmingham in 1948 and moved to Troy. He ran Harry Baker the Jeweler from 1962 until 1995. He was &uot;Troy's Greatest Fan&uot;; he coached a Babe Ruth team. Served as commissioner of the Tri County Baseball League. He was a former Co-Captain of the Quarter Back Club, President of the Booster club in 1968, a member of TSU's Baseball Mafia. He was a faithful member and a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Troy where he taught Sunday School for 31 years in the Juniors Department. He was always &uot;Super&uot; if you asked him.

Pallbearers will be Britt Baker, Adam Baker, Al Hollman, Johnny Witherington, Jimmy Lunsford, Johny Gilchrist and Frank Sadler.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Barracca Class of First Baptist Church, Deacons of First Baptist Church, the McDonald's Coffee Club, E.C. Oswald, Hank Jones, Donald Kelly and Ralph Black.
