Dr. James Eugene Thomas

Dr. James Eugene Thomas or Troy died Dec. 15, 2003, in Troy.

Services will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Rideout's Roebuck Chapel with burial following in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Rideout's Roebuck Chapel from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

He was born Sept. 20, 1952, in Birmingham and was a former member of East Lake Presbyterian Church of East Lake. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School , the University of Alabama at Birmingham and UAB Medical School.

He opened a medical practice in Troy in 1979 and was on staff at Edge Memorial Hospital and retired in February 2002. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel E. Genc Thomas and grandparents Grover C. and Elsie M. Thomas and W.T. Allen.

Survivors include: two sons and a daughter, Jonathan (Tonya) Thomas, James (Chanel) Thomas and Brandy (John) Weismann; a step-daughter, Amanda Bagents; a step-son, Ryan Bagents; a grandson, Dalton Monroe Thomas; his mother, Frances T. (Buddy) Owen; a grandmother, Margaret Allen; aunts and uncles, Joe (Ann) Thomas, Sidney (Sue) Thomas, Betty A. Cooper, Margaret (Oatie) Odeneal; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be James Thomas, John Weismann, Buddy Owen, Marion Odeneal, Joe Thomas and Ken Marion, Ph.D.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Edge Memorial Hospital, Dr. Richard Berryman, Dr. Michael Grelier and Dr. Duane Shroyer.
