There's a revival of sorts going on and it will be held at Clay Hill Farms near Pronto on July 22.

"We're calling it a revival because we're bringing back - reviving - a very popular event for our young people, the 4-H Natural Resources Day Camp," said Tammy Powell, extension coordinator for Pike County.

The 4-H Natural Resources Day Camp is sponsored by the Pike County Extension Office, but it is not limited to members of the 4-H clubs.

"The camp is open to all young people of school age," Powell said. "If parents would like to come with their children, they are welcomed to do so."

The cost of the 4-H Natural Resources Day Camp is $1 per person and there's no better deal around for a day. The registration fee includes lunch and a variety of activities offered from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Activities for the day camp include hunter education and safety, fishing, orienteering, snakes of Alabama and pioneer skills.

"Those who attended will learn how to use a compass in the outdoors to find keep from getting lost," Powell said. "They will also learn pioneer skills that will help them know how to survive in the wild."

As a special treat, Dalton Halbrooks will present a special program related to skills needed to get along in the outdoors. Halbrooks is also known as the Mountain Man or Huggin' Bear and he makes his outdoor lessons come alive.

"His presentations are really great and kids love him" Powell said. "We are expecting good participation in the 4-H Natural Resources Day Camp. We encourage all young people of school age to come and bring a friend."

Pre-registration helps with the planning of the meal, so those who wish to attend are asked to call the county extension office at 566-0985 and register.

"You may call that number if you have any questions about the camp or need directions," Powell said.

To go to Clay Hill Farms from Troy, travel south on U.S. Highway 231 and turn left on County Road 5522. Turn right at the stop sign on to County Road 5511. Go 1.2 mile and turn left on County Road 5523. The entrance to Clay Hill Farms is on the left about 1.4 miles.

From Brundidge, travel north on state Highway 93 for about 3.5 miles. Turn left on County Road 5523 and go 1.4 miles. Clay Hill Farms is on the right.
