We've had another great week in Pike County There are so many good things that are happening here, it's hard to capture them all.
Among the highlights of last week were:
Troy State University officially broke ground on their Quad Renovation Project. The project's a fine example of public-private partnering for progress and our hats are off to the many TSU supports who made the project possible through private donations to the school.
Some 70 Pike County students graduated from Upward Bound, a program that propels high schoolers into the workplace to give them practical, real-world experience, and it gives them an edge up in college. We salute the students who were willing to take the initiative this summer to better prepare themselves for the future.
The Upward Bound students weren't the only young people getting prepared. Fourteen youth completed a two-day Safe Sitter program at Edge Regional Medical Center. Safe Sitter is aimed at improving the welfare of young children by increasing the availability of young adolescents instructed in safe and nurturing child-care techniques.
Senior citizens had a second opportunity to sign up for SenioRx, a prescription drug program that makes low, or no-cost prescriptions available to senior citizens in Pike County. It's nice to see that we care for our seniors as much as we do for our young.
