A Brundidge juvenile, shot while attempting to flee the scene of a burglary Thursday night in Brundidge, was released from Edge Regional Medical Center Monday.

Brundidge Police Chief Moses Davenport said the juvenile was released into the custody of his parents on an electronic monitor.

"The juvenile was charged with second degree burglary, as was the other suspect in the burglary," Davenport said. "The other juvenile remains in the detention center in Dothan. His trail date has been set for July 14 in Troy. I would expect that both juveniles' trails will be around the same time."

Davenport said the youth was shot in the arm by a city policeman while attempting to flee the scene of the burglary at Brundidge City Hall/Bass House.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. when Officer Charles Beasley was making a routine patrol check.

The police chief said Beasley noticed moving shadows in the window of the municipal building. The figures moved toward the back of the house and the officer went around the house and saw a black male running from the scene.

"He pulled his gun and called for him to stop, but he kept going," Davenport said. "At that time, a second male jumped from the back porch with a hammer in his hand. Not knowing his intention, the officer fired a shot that hit him in the lower part of his right arm."

The incident is under investigation by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation, which is standard procedure in a shooting that involves a law enforcement officer, Davenport said.

According to Davenport, the ABI investigation will not be completed for 30 days.
