Some things are just perfect the way they are.

The Steelers’ black and gold jerseys, “The Empire Strikes Back,” the New York City backdrop against the night sky are some of the things that come to mind.

Now, imagine someone coming in and changing those three respective things, all in the name of making more money.

It would be an outrage, a disgrace, and a travesty.

But that is something that could potentially happen to sporting event that is perfect as it stands now – NCAA Basketball Tournament.

There is a motion to expand the 65-team tournament to 96 teams, in a move that basically allow every team under the sun a spot in the tournament.

Why anyone would think this is a good idea is beyond me, but, like every argument, there are two sides.

Sure, with the expansion of 31 more teams, more schools would be a part of the “Madness,” which equates to more revenue sharing and yada, yada, yada.

For once, I would love for a sporting decision to not be based around money.

The way the tournament is set up now, is and always will be perfect. End of story, no questions asked.

Expanding the amount of teams would allow to many mediocre teams in, and thus make for a boring first couple of rounds or even tournament. (I know a lot of people may be shaking their heads or laughing at that last sentence, but believe me – it would happen.)

Those 65 teams that get in are the best of the best – they each earned their shot.

I have always been told the infamous cliché “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The tournament is no where near broke, it’s simply – perfect.
