Troy Police are investigating a burglary where two senior citizens were assaulted, sending both to the hospital, one in serious condition.
At about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday police responded to the call on Terrace Trail where a 77-year-old man and his wife were burglarized and assaulted.
Police would not release the names of the couple, but said both were transported to Edge Regional Medical Center by Haynes Ambulance Service. One victim was treated and released at Edge.
The other victim was transported to Flowers Hospital in Dothan and remains in critical condition following surgery and is in intensive care according to a family member, who declined to be identified.
The investigation, Sgt. Bennie Scarbrough said, was still ongoing, but TPD detectives spent the day going door-to-door in the neighborhood for leads in the case.
"Part of (the detectives' work) is following up on
leads in connection with this case - they were canvassing the neighborhood," he said.
The department's detective division has six detectives, including the division's director Capt. Lewis Fannin.
Scarbrough said all detectives were involved in some aspect of this investigation, as are other patrol division members and members of the special operations division.
"I'd urge anyone with information about this crime to contact the Troy Police Department," said Chief Anthony Everage.
