Pike Countians see several firsts

Good morning and welcome to a new week at work, play and worship.

This week began with clear skies and cooler weather, a mighty contrast to the thunderstorms that rolled through Pike County last week. Easter week here should be a wonderfully sunshine-filled one.

The first-ever "Steaks for Scholarships" took off Saturday evening. The event, a project of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Pike class, is aimed at providing an educational scholarship to a deserving young person in Pike County.

Through WalkAmerica, a fund raising event for the March of Dimes, Pike Countians contributed to giving babies born in the United States a healthy start on life.

Pike County's only Olympian Nick Costes was memorialized at TSU's Tine Davis Field House with a light-hearted service. His dedication to athletics has made a lasting impression on both TSU programs and those around the world.

Operation Front Line got under way this week as the result of a local woman's good intentions

Michell Brown, whose brother-in-law, John, is deployed in Iraq, said she was hoping the donation drive would provide a few basic necessities and creature comforts to the men and women fighting in the desert.
