Spirit of the season calls us to be generous

While bells are ringing and trees are being trimmed, many Pike County residents are enjoying the holiday season.
But many more are not.
Financial hardships, emotional challenges, the loneliness of everyday life are excacerbated during the holiday season. And because of that, it’s the responsibility of those of us who are capable and able to share our gifts with others less fortunate.
That might mean putting an extra dollar or two into the Salvation Army kettle when you’re out shopping, knowing that the money you donate will be used to feed the hungry; clothe and house the needy; and respond to calls for aid throughout the year.
Or perhaps it means adopting a resident at the local nursing home, where staff members pray every year that compassionate members of the community will share their time and their presence with the gentle souls who reside in the home.
Or maybe it means adopting an angel from the tree at your church, giving you an opportunity to teach your children about the joys of giving during the holiday season.
Whatever you feel in your heart, we hope you’ll respond this holiday season with compassion and charity.
And give in the spirit of the season.
