Troy women’s basketball team suffered another setback Wednesday night as they were defeated by Kennesaw State, 66-57.

It was the final non-conference game for the Trojans who fell to 1-10.

“I thought the first half we did a decent job on defense,” said head coach Michael Murphy. “The second half we just didn’t have the intensity we need to finish the game.”

Troy held the Owls to just 33 percent shooting in the first half but KSU took control hitting 60 percent in the second half.

The Trojans took the lead with 6:30 left in the game on a Tenia Manuel three-pointer but Kennesaw State went on a 14-5 run down the stretch to pull away.

Manuel led the Trojans with 14 points including two 3-point shots. As a team, Troy was 5 of 20 from beyond the arc.

KSU took an early 8-0 lead. The Trojans couldn’t manage to get on the board until Manuel hit a long jump-shot 5:30 minutes into the contest. The basket was initially ruled a three-pointer but was later changed.

Manuel would score seven of Troy’s first nine points including a three that stood to give the Trojans a 10-8 advantage.

Turnovers once again plagued the Trojans as they handed the ball over 19 times leading to 26 Owl points.

Troy will look ahead to their conference schedule and get back to practice after the Christmas holiday.

“We’ve just got to get better,” Murphy said. “We’re getting good shots and just not making them. This is something we have got to change.”

The Trojans will not play again until Jan. 5 when they take on Middle Tennessee State at home in their conference opener.
