VALDOSTA, Ga. – Former Troy State golfer Jared Purvis was named the new head golf coach at Valdosta State University earlier this week.
"We’re excited to have Jared joining our staff," VSU Athletics Director Herb Reinhard said. "We have a very good golf program here at Valdosta State, and we feel that Jared is a great fit for us."
Purvis, a 23-year-old native of Broxton, Ga., joins the VSU staff as its youngest head coach following an impressive career at TSU. He finished his four-year career with the Trojans with a 76.9 stroke average, leading the team his junior and senior seasons with 76.64 and 75.9 averages, respectively.
"Jared meets our needs," Reinhard said. "He is obviously talented and seems to have gotten a great bit of experience at Troy State."
Purvis’s senior season was highlighted by a 212 at the JSU/Young Oil Intercollegiate, where he finished in a tie for second place individually, his best finish at TSU.
As a prep golfer at Coffee High School in Douglas, Ga., Purvis was chosen as one of the top 12 seniors in the state and was invited to the state championships where he finished third. He also made the cut four of five times in the Future Masters Golf Tournament.
