Troy State head golf coach Matt Terry’s first recruiting class is complete as the Trojans added three to the men’s team and one to women’s squad for the upcoming season.
"I really like the potential of each one of these golfers," Terry said. "Each player has a lot of tournament experience, which is always a plus. If they continue to work hard, each one will have a very successful career at Troy State."
The lone signee for the women’s team is Katelyn Crosson. A native of Niceville, Fla., Crosson recently won the Bagwell Junior Championship in Avon Park, Fla., firing a three-under par 216. Lettering five years at Niceville High School, Crosson finished in 10th place at the 2001 Florida State High School Championships.
She has family ties to Troy State with her cousin, Jason, lettering on the TSU cross country team.
"Katelyn is a great student and a great golfer," Terry said. "She brings a lot of experience to the table and is playing in a lot of tournaments this summer to prepare her for college. She has a lot of potential, and I’m really excited about her coming to Troy State."
Brad Martin, a native of Auburn, Ala., lettered four years at Auburn High School for head coach Duke Smith. He was named to the all-region team his senior season, finishing the season with a 76.0 stroke average. He also was named most outstanding player after his senior season after finishing his junior year with the lowest scoring average on the team as well as leading the team in birdies.
Jacob Nick, from Pleasant Grove, Ala., lettered four years at Pleasant Grove High School. An accomplished junior golfer, Nick has been invited to the Future Masters the past four years. He also qualified for the State Amateur in 2000, finishing third at the qualifier at Indian Hills Country Club.
David Rasco, who played at Shelton State as a freshman, rejoins his former coach at Troy State for his sophomore season. Rasco helped lead Shelton State to the junior college national title last season, finishing the year with a 74.6 stroke average.
