Michael Bruce Lovik
Michael Bruce Lovik recently passed into eternity at his home in Atlanta. He was a frequent speaker to business majors at Troy University and was the brother of Troy’s former business dean, Dr. Lawrence Lovik. A private graveside service was at Southern Heritage Cemetery in Pelham on December 20, 2011, with the Rev. Jerry Harris, associate pastor at Shades Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham,, officiating.
Mr. Lovik was preceded in death by his father, Orville James Lovik. Survivors include Michael’s mother, Marjorie Ward Lovik; his brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence Lovik (Jean); nieces, Melani Lovik and Juli Hansen and her husband, Dr. John Hansen; and great-nephew and niece, Samuel and Mary Elizabeth Hansen, all of Birmingham; an uncle and aunt, Virgil and Romane Lovik of Fertile, Iowa; as well as several cousins.
Mr. Lovik worked in Marketing and Strategic Management capacities for more than 30 years with AT&T, and more recently with Siemens. He set various benchmarks in his career including working with an international team from the United States, The United Kingdom, and France to place the first international undersea light-wave cable system. He was inducted into AT&T’s Hall of Fame and was their first employee to earn the prestigious Six Sigma Master Black Belt. Mr. Lovik was an alumnus of Macon State College and Mercer University. He further advanced his education by completing the Business Strategy and Computer Architecture program at the Cambridge Institute, a partnership between MIT and Harvard University, completed graduate work in Management at St. John’s University, participated in Negotiations for Senior Executives at the Harvard Law School, and completed Six Sigma training at The Juran Institute. He regularly taught Six Sigma statistical methodology to corporate executives at various international sites. Mr. Lovik was a member of First Baptist Church of Atlanta.
