The Brundidge City Council held a public hearing Tuesday afternoon to give its citizens an opportunity to have input into the changes that will be made to the city’s reapportionment district lines based on the 2010 census.

The city’s population is 2076. Ideally, each district would have a population of 415. The two workable redistricting maps that City Manager Britt Thomas presented at the public hearing were drawn with the target number of 415.

The population distribution for Map 1 was District 1, 419; District 2, 417; District 3, 408; District 4, 410; and District 5, 422.

The population distribution for Map 1 was District 1, 422; District 2, 417; District 3, 408; District 4, 415; and District 5, 414.

Thomas said that either of the maps will work for the city and it will be up to the council as to which map will be adopted.

Thomas said the greatest differences between the two maps are in Districts 1 and 5. There is a slight different between the two for District 4 and only minor differences between the maps for Districts 2 and 3.

The maps are available for viewing at Brundidge City Hall and on the city’s website at www.brundidge.org.

Thomas said citizens are encouraged to come by city hall and review the maps prior to the next public hearing scheduled for 4 p.m. Feb. 7 at Brundidge City Hall.

The public will again have an opportunity to view the map and ask questions and express concerns before the Council makes a final decision.

The Council will vote on a map at its Feb. 21 meeting in order to have the map posted by Feb. 28 according to Alabama state law.
In other business, the Council reviewed the 2011FY draft of the city’s audited financial statement.

The audit showed that the city’s general fund revenue was 99 percent of its budgeted amount of $2,852,100 and within 95 percent of its budgeted expenses of $2,850,593.

The city showed a 12 percent increase in retail sales tax revenue over 2009.

The Brundidge City Council meets at 4 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Brundidge City Hall. The meetings are open to the public.
