Who wants to be a millionaire?

That’s a question most people would answer in the affirmative, but anyone who has a million greenbacks would probably gladly give it up if that would mean finding a cure for cancer.

Now, Gibson and Carden, CPA, is giving local residents a chance to do both with a "Million Dollar Shot at Cancer."

The certified public accounting firm is sponsoring the 3rd Annual "Scramble for Life" April 22 at Troy County Club.

"Everyone who enjoys playing a round of golf will have a chance at winning a million bucks and, at the same time, raise funds to help beat cancer," said Ashley Eakes, publicity chairperson for the event.

And, if $1 million isn’t enough to entice golfers to pull out their woods and head for the tee, there are also opportunities to win $10,000 in cash, a 2001 Nissan Altima and a TRX 450 ES Honda four-wheeler.

Add, $450 for a first place team finish, $300 for second place and $150 for third place and that’s a big purse for a charity golf tournament."

"Gibson and Carden is honored to once again participate in the Pike County Relay for Life campaign," said Eakes. "Our fund raising event, ‘Scramble for Life’ is geared toward raising money for the American Cancer Society. The funds raised will be used for cancer research, public education and patient services. We hope that everyone who has a set of clubs or can borrow a set will join us in this fight against cancer."

The "Scramble for Life" will be a four-person scramble. In a scramble, Eakes said each member of the team may hit a tee shot. The team then selects one of the tee shots to play. All members of the team hit from that spot. The procedure is repeated until the ball is holed.

The entry fee is $75 per player and includes 18 holes of golf and cart usage. There will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. April 22.

Anyone getting a hole-in-one during the finals at Troy Country Club April 22 will win either $10,000 in cash donated by WTBF, the Nissan Altima donated by Troy Nissan or the four wheeler donated by Ward’s Yamaha.

The "Million Dollar Shot at Cancer" will get underway immediately following the "Scramble for Life."

Qualifying rounds are April 17, 18 and 19 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and April 18 from 5 until 6:30 p.m. All qualifying rounds are at Trojan Oaks.

The 10 shots closest to the pin from 178 yards will qualify for one shot from 178 yards to become a millionaire golfer.
