From Special Reports- The Troy State softball team snapped its four-game losing streak, sweeping a key Atlantic Sun Conference doubleheader from Georgia State at the Lady Trojan Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

"We got some great clutch hits today," said Troy State head coach Melanie Davis. "We haven’t been getting the clutch hits when we needed them, but we started to turn the corner today. Our pitching staff did a solid job today, especially with Christi Curran striking out five in two innings."

Troy State (34-14, 4-4 A-Sun) took game one, 6-4, led by an offense that pounded 10 hits. Erin Flater went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Bonnie Belin went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Lady Trojans. Cassie Wilkenson picked up the win to raise her record to 13-4, scattering seven hits over four innings while allowing four runs. She struck out four and walked three. Curran picked up her fourth save of the season, allowing just two hits in two innings while striking out five.

Georgia State’s (25-21, 3-5 A-Sun) Lindsey French took the loss to drop her record to 10-8. She allowed 10 hits, giving up six runs, four earned, while walking one and striking out two.

In game two, the Lady Trojans relied more on their pitching and some timely hitting to claim a 3-1 win. Jenny Boyd went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI, with Tamra Howren going 1-for-3 with two RBIs, accounting for three of TSU’s five hits. Kim Unkenholz picked up the win to improve to 8-3 on the year. She gave up one run on four hits while striking out two.

Andrea McNary got the loss for the Lady Panthers, dropping to 11-10 on the year. She allowed three runs on just five hits, while striking out seven.

The Lady Trojans are back in action again on Saturday as they face A-Sun co-leader Stetson in a doubleheader at the Lady Trojan Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
