Pike County commissioners interviewed a third candidate for the county administrator job Monday night.

Douglas Pride, another candidate for the position of county administrator was interviewed after the Pike County Commission meeting Monday night. The Commission tried to contact Pride April 1, the day of his scheduled interview to set up an earlier time for the interview, but he was out of town and was not able to be located. Pride to not give him a chance to interview for the job.

The commission had invited five men to interview last Monday for the vacant county administrator’s position. Only Robert Griggs, an Alexander City resident and AUM professor, and Harry Sanders, a Brundidge sales manager, took part.

Don Cockran of Montgomery; Douglas Pride of Banks; and Tobbie Ricks of Andalusia also were asked to interview.

The commissioners had narrowed the applications to their top five candidates, who were invited to the preliminary interviews.

The position has been vacant since January, when Mark Tyner left Pike County for another position. The commission appointed an interim administrator and has been seeking a permanent replacement.

The administrator is responsible for the county’s organizational, management, budget and administrative operations and works under the policies established by the commission. The administrator oversees the county’s budget, which is more than $8 million annually, and handles payroll and bookkeeping. The starting salary range for the position is $52,600 to $79,500, depending on experience.
