Another round of severe weather in Alabama caused early school dismissals and the cancellation of after school activities.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Pike County and surrounding areas until 5 p.m. today, but called it off about 3:36 after a strong storm passed through the area.

School and office closings for Thursday:

• Covenant Christian Academy is closing at 12 p.m.
• Pike Liberal Arts School will let out at noon and all basketball practices and games have been cancelled, today.
• Pike County Schools will dismiss at 1 p.m. and all other activities have been cancelled.
• Troy City Schools will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. today and all after school activities have been cancelled.
• New Life Christian Academy is closing at 1:30.
• Pike County offices will close at 1:30.
