AUBURN, Ala. –

The Troy State Track and Field team traveled up I-85 this weekend to Auburn to compete in the Auburn Springtime Invitational. The meet began Friday afternoon and continued through the day on Saturday. Teams participating in this weekend’s meet included Birmingham Southern, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Calvin College, Alabama-Huntsville, Samford, West Georgia, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee, Alabama State and Murray State.

The Trojans continued to improve their excellent performances from that of the previous three meets.

Two Lady Trojans set new school records while in Auburn this weekend. Michelle Thompson set a new school record in the pole vault with a vault of 9’2.25" giving her a fifth place finish, which broke the record of Melissa Dailey set in 2001 of 8’0". Also setting a new school record was Takia Shoats, Shoats set a new record of 140’7"(2nd) in the hammer, breaking her previous record set in 2001 of 138’4".

Lindsey Minnihan and Belinda Bargmann both had excellent performances in the 3000 meter run. Minnihan finished third with a time of 10:36.86, while Bargmann finished a close fourth with a time of 10:37.02.

The 4×100 meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 47.12 edging out conference foe Georgia State who finished fourth with a time of 47.38.

Ioanna Dafermou finished 5th in the discus with a throw of 131’3" which places her third on the All-Time TSU outdoor list for that event. Amanda Mason’s throw of 134’10" places her second on the All-Time TSU outdoor list. Mason also holds the school record in the Javelin, which she set at the conference championships in 2000.

On the Men’s side, Andy Britt finished third in the 100 meter run with a time of 10.81, with teammate Emery Vickers close behind in fourth with a time of 10.82.

Louis Harris finished fourth in the 200 meter run with a time of 21.67. Teammate Emery Vickers was close behind in fifth with a time of 21.70.

In the 800 meter run Junior Michael Bond from Australia, finished fourth with a time of 1:53.14.

Adam Bess finished 15th in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:06.06, a personal best for him.

Jesse Morrow finished second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.80. Teammate Arrington Watkins was a close third with a time of 14.81.

Sophomore Jason Crosson finished third in the 3000 meter steeple chase with a time of 9:58.03, a personal best for him in that event.

Freshman Johnnie Peppers finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 43’7", a personal best.

Chris Brongel’s throw of 177’7"(7th) places him second on the TSU all time outdoor list, he also holds the school record, with a throw of 189’4" which he set at the 2001 A-Sun Championships.

The track team will continue action this weekend, when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the Alabama Relays hosted by the University of Alabama.
