There’s no such thing as being bored in Pike County this weekend. With a full slate of activities, from races to football, our community is in for a busy whirl.

· The All-American Soap Box Derby races down Elm Street beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants will arrive much earlier, and spectators are sure to line the street watching the youngsters careen down the hill in their specially built, engineless cars.

It’s a thrill for spectators and participants alike, and truly a fun-filled family activity. We encourage you to go and support the young races.

· The Troy State University St. Patrick’s Day parade takes place at 11 a.m. on campus. Led by the Troy mayor, Miss Shamrock and Mr. Leprechaun and a host of other dignitaries, the parade is a delight for participants and those who come to watch.

From Boy Scouts decked in green to festive college students, this new tradition draws a large crowd.

· The T-Day game at Troy State begins at 2 p.m. at the Scrushy Field at Memorial Stadium. This intra-squad games concludes the beginning of spring drills and whets the appetites of die-hard football fans

eager for the return of the fall sport. Besides that, it’s just a fun time to gather together again.

· Toss in several sporting events, from the Trojan Classic softball tournament to the Nick Costes 5K run, and you’ve got a full slate.

So head out this weekend to Troy and surrounding areas and join in our community fun. It’s a great time to discover all that we have to offer here in Pike County.
