From Staff Reports – The Lady Knights fought off Weaver 47-42 to win the Southeast Regional girls championship and advance to Birmingham.

Cheery McNeel had 13 points to lead Catholic. Lauren Vercelli added 10.

Jessica Fair lead Weaver with 14 points and teammate Latora Downie added 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Class 3A Boys

No. 1 Lafayette cruised past Montgomery Academy with an 80-63 win in the Class 3A Boys Southeast Regional finals.

20-plus point efforts by Mecose Todd (27) and Chris Simpson (24) helped lead the Bulldogs to victory. Simpson also grabbed 10 boards. Clinton Burton also had 11 points for Lafayette.

Russell Barnes led MA with 20 points and Adrian Gipson had 19. Robert Mooty scored 10.

Class 4A Girls

Zsaquez Flucker scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Abbeville remained unbeaten with a 47-37 win over Elmore County.

Robin Porter scored 14 points for the Lady Yellow Jackets, which improved to 27-0.

Nica Westbrooks pulled in 16 rebounds and scored 15 points for ECHS.

Class 4A Boys

Central-Hayneville erupted in the third quarter of play, coming back from a 10-point deficit to beat Abbeville, 87-78, and advance to the Final Four for the second straight year.

Held to only six points in the first half, Central’s Issac Miles scored 26 points after intermission and finished with 32. Cornelius Moorer added 23 points.

Abbeville’s DeShawn Danzey led his team with 24 points. Chris Jackson scored 12

and had 15 boards.

Class 5A Girls

Booker T. Washington also made it two straight years to the Final Four, with a 68-53

win over Benjamin Russell.

Natorya Sanford had 18 points and 18 boards for BTW. Frantian Coleman scored 15.

Vaquita Maxwell had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Benjamin Russell.

Class 2A Boys Southwest Regional

From the Mobile Register – R.C Hatch came from 10 points down at halftime to beat No. 7 Goshen, 69-63, avenging a loss last season to the Eagles in the first round of regional play.

Billy Campbell and Jason Green scored 17 points apiece to lead the Bobcats, who trailed 37-27 at halftime but shot 68 percent and went 13-of-13 from the foul line in the second half. Frederick Lewis added 11 points for Hatch and Campbell pulled down 10 rebounds.

Goshen’s season ended despite a 32-point, 12-rebound performance by Kendaris Pelton. Averick Rogers added 10 points for the Eagles.
