Eagles move up to seventh, CHHS drops out of 5A poll

The Goshen Eagles moved up to seventh in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association High School Basketball poll released late Wednesday.
The Eagles are currently 7-3 on the year.
Charles Henderson dropped out of the Class 5A poll, after losing consecutive games in the American Red Cross Classic and being beaten 50-32 by 4A No. 10 Andalusia last Friday night.
The Trojans were ranked tenth in the first poll released by the ASWA in mid-December.
Barbour County saw its 17 game win streak snapped by Pike County in December. Four more losses have followed, causing the Jaguars to fall from first place to fifth in Class 2A. Last season’s 2A runner-up to Barbour County, Mars Hill Bible, takes over the top spot this week with a 17-2 record.
Despite being romped by Dothan in the Dothan Progress/Eagle Holiday Prep Classic, Abbeville still holds onto the No. 1 ranking in Class 4A.
Southside-Selma (13-2) is tops in 5A, followed by: Ramsay (14-1), B.C. Rain (18-4), Blount (11-5, Stanhope-Elmore (16-5), Oxford (9-3), Jackson-Olin (12-6), Russellville (9-3), Curry (14-3), and J.O. Johnson (11-6).
Holy Family is No. 2 behind Mars Hill in the Class 2A poll. Following is: Geraldine (15-3), R. C. Hatch (12-3), Barbour County (13-5), Calera (13-5), Goshen (7-3), Crossville (13-2), Samson (10-2) and Southern Choctaw (11-3).
Eufaula’s girls team is ranked No. 5 in this week’s girls 5A poll. The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans beat the Lady Tigers last Friday night, 34-31.
Faith Academy holds onto the No. 1 ranking in the AISA girls poll with a 15-0 record. Lakeside is No. 2 followed by: Abbeville Christian (10-2), Warrior Academy (11-1), Lowndes Academy (11-3), Escambia Academy (13-4), Tuscaloosa Academy (8-3), Springwood (9-3), Patrician Academy (10-2) and Morgan Academy (11-3).
Lee-Scott, Pike Liberal Arts boys team’s opponent tonight, is ranked No. 2 in the AISA with a 15-1 record. Tuscaloosa Academy is No. 1 and unbeaten at 11-0.
