Kids are the "pickiest" eaters on earth. So, what’s a mother to do?

Well, she can worry and wonder, "What in the world can I cook for dinner?" or she can open the hot-off-the-press cookbook titled Collection of Favorite Recipes: Submitted by the students at Charles Henderson Middle School.

Venesia McClaney, teacher and PTO secretary, and Eula Pouncey, PTO member, coordinated the cookbook project, which will raise funds for additional classroom supplies.

And, perhaps, more importantly, the project involved the student body in an effort to support the educational programs of their school, while letting their moms know what kids like for dinner.

"The cookbook contains 400 recipes the students like to cook themselves or recipes for favorite foods they like their moms and/or dads to prepare for them," McClaney said. "The cookbook is unique in that respect and also in that it contains photographs of the students who submitted recipes and it features art work by our students."

The cookbook is divided into seven sections: meats, vegetables, candies and cookies, desserts, loaves and other breads, miscellaneous and soups, salads and stews.

The heaviest-weighted sections are meat and desserts and, not surprisingly, the section with the fewest entries is vegetables. After all, it is a kid-driven cookbook.

"The cookbook is filled with outstanding recipes for all ages," McClaney said. "We had 500 books printed and believe they will go fast, especially at this time of the year. They will make great Christmas gifts and, at $10 each,

the price is more than reasonable."

McClaney said the public is encouraged to support this fund-raising project of the Charles Henderson Middle School PTO.

Not only will those who purchase the cookbook get a monster number of tried-and-true and kid-pleasing recipes, they will also be making an investment in the education of America’s future leaders.

The cookbooks are available at the Corner Store, Home Gallery, Headquarters and Crowe’s on Highway 231 and, of course, through the school office.
